Isotope labelling of single bacteria allows the role of different species within the environment to be investigated. This SWIFT™ ultra-fast Raman image was acquired by monitoring the resonance Raman signal of the bacteria carotenoid chemicals, which show a significant shift caused by the isotope labels.
